Early in October, neuroscientists from Western’s Brain and Mind Institute released preliminary findings from the world’s largest sleep study. News that people who sleep an average of 7 to 8 hours per night perform better cognitively than those who sleep less or more was of interest to media around the world including, The Globe and Mail, Wall Street Journal, Global News Toronto, The South African and Inc. Magazine.

Recognizing the role that opioid prescribing plays in the national opioid crisis, a team of researchers at Western and Lawson Health Research Institute have developed a new clinical protocol called STOP Narcotics designed to significantly reduce the amount of opioids prescribed. Research co-led by Western University professor Michelle Mottola showing that exercise is a critical component of achieving a healthy pregnancy, produced new evidence-based pregnancy & physical activity guidelines launched jointly with the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC) and the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP). News of the new guidelines was shared by Radio Canada International, Ottawa Citizen, Financial Times and Huffington Post.
